At least one terrorist was killed by security forces in an intelligence-based operation in the Spinwam area of North Waziristan, the Inter-Services Public Relations said on Saturday.

In a statement, available with Aaj News, the armed forces military wing said that the operation was carried out on the reported presence of terrorists. “During intense exchange of fire, the terrorist, who was involved in terrorist activities, was killed,” it read.

The statement added that weapon and ammunition were also seized from the killed terrorist’s possession.

ISPR Director General Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar on January 5 said that operations against the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were continuing as there was no ceasefire agreement with the outlawed organisation. Moreover, the country on Tuesday marked five years of Operation Raddul Fasaad, which aimed at consolidating gains of a two-decades-long war on terror and eliminating remnants of terrorists across the country.

It is pertinent to mention that the ending of the ceasefire agreement had resulted in terrorist attacks in the country, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. As per media reports, personnel providing security to polio teams in KP and army check post were attacked in Kech in January. Such development had also prompted intelligence operations, which according to the ISPR had resulted in the death of several terrorists.

In addition to this, eight terrorists were killed during operations conducted by security forces in North Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan on Thursday. As per the armed forces’ media wing handout, security had forces carried out the operation in the “general area” of Hamzoni in N Waziristan tribal district in wake of reports about the presence of terrorists.

“An intense exchange of fire took place between the security forces and terrorists during which six miscreants were killed,” it read, “The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ali, Mateeullah, Mohammad Umar, Akhtar Hussain, Sher and Waseem.”

Separately, two terrorists were killed in another intelligence-based operation conducted by the security forces also conducted in Kulachi tehsil of DI Khan. “They were identified as Fazal Rehman alias Khairy, a resident of village Luni, and Mehran, a resident of village Rorri,” it read.
