The Opposition leaders on Tuesday said that Transparency International's new corruption index has exposed the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) government.

Taking to Twitter Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz said there was no government in the history of Pakistan as corrupt as Imran Khan's government.

During the rule of Imran Khan, who set a record of decline in every sector, only one sector that has made development was theft and looting, Maryam wrote.

PML-N's Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the report released by Transparency International has exposed PTI-led government.

Those who used to call others thieves have now been declared a thief by Transparency International, he added.

PML-N president and opposition leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif commented on the report, saying the incumbent government had been declared a thief for the second time.

Corruption is increasing rapidly under Imran Niazi and the whole world is now saying that Pakistani Prime Minister is a thief, he added.

On the other hand Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Sherry Rehman termed TI's report a charge-sheet against the PTI-led government.

"Decline of Pakistan’s ranking by 16 positions in the report exposes the government’s narrative" Rehman wrote on Twitter.

The rulers who promised to end corruption in the country have in fact increased the ill-practice, she added.

Pakistan has slipped by 16 points on the international Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) and stands at 140th position in comparison to 124th position in 2020.

The Berlin-based non-profit releases the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) every year, ranking 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and business people.
