Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has taken notice of the events surrounding the arrest of PML-N leader Capt(retd) Mohammad Safdar Awan in Karachi and ordered an "immediate inquiry", said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Army Chief has directed the Karachi Corps Commanders to "immediately inquire into the circumstances to determine the facts and report back as soon as possible".

The statement by the military's media wing comes minutes after PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called a press conference and demanded answers related to the arrest of Safdar. Bilawal said that 'Sindh police officials are demoralized and humiliated because they were pressurized into arrested Safdar.

PPP chairman said that police are wondering "who were the people who surrounded" the Sindh police chief's house in the early hours of Monday.

Leave applications put forward by high ranking Sindh police officials including Inspector General (IG) Mushtaq Mahar, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi, AIG Special Branch Imran Yaqoob, and several Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG) on Tuesday after they were allegedly pressurized to register a case against Capt(retd) Safdar on Monday, had promoted Bilawal's press conference.
