KARACHI: Following its first power showdown in Gujranwala two days ago, the Opposition's Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has geared up again for its second show of power today in Karachi.

Hosted by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), as it commemorates the 13th anniversary of the Karsaz blasts, today's event will be held at the Bagh-e-Jinnah.

Besides being addressed by the top PPP leadership, the jalsa will also be attended and addressed by Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman. Other political party leaders that are a part of the grand democratic alliance are also expected to attend today's event.

PDM president and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has arrived in Karachi whereas Maryam is scheduled to land in the city today. PPP's Karachi leader Najmi Alam said that arrangements had been made and 50,000 seats were present inside the venue for participants.

Ahead of the rally, both PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited the venue and inspected the arrangements.

Four gates have been set up at the venue—one for PDM leaders, one for women, one for political workers and one for the media. Meanwhile, three stages have been set up—one for the main PDM leaders and two for senior leaders of opposition parties. Each stage is 160 feet long, 20 feet high and 50 feet wide. Barbed wire has been placed around the main stage where the PDM leaders will sit.

Special arrangements for lighting and sound system have also made at the venue. Around 1,500 workers of the PPP will volunteer to regulate movement of traffic and ensure participants duly follow anti-coronavirus SOPs.
