  • National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has accepted the resignations of 11 – out of a total of 135 – PTI members of the lower house of Parliament after consultations with the ruling coalition government. The former ruling party MNAs had resigned from the NA after the success of the vote of no-confidence against ex-PM Imran Khan.

  • The resolution for a vote of no-confidence has been accepted against Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari. The august House would vote today (Friday) for the speaker election, as PTI’s Sibtain Khan and Opposition’s Saiful Mulook Khokhar lock horns for the coveted slot.

  • The PML-Q has decided to remove Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, whose letter in the Punjab CM election had led to a tailspin in the political atmosphere, from the post of party president because of ill health. The party has also decided to remove Tariq Bashir Cheema from the post of general secretary as he was “hatching a conspiracy” against the party.

  • Former premier Nawaz Sharif has blasted the ruling coalition government in the wake of recent political developments. “Right from the first day, I was saying do not take this government,” he said during an online PDM meeting. The PDM has decided to send a presidential reference for the interpretation of Article 63A (disqualification on grounds of defection, etc) of the Constitution.

  • The Judicial Commission, the constitutional body responsible for appointing judges to superior courts, has rejected the appointment of judges to five vacant positions in the Supreme Court.

  • Heavy rains wreak havoc in Pakistan, with Balochistan being the most affected province in the country. The government has announced its decision to provide financial assistance to the flood affected people in the province. Relatives of the deceased would be given Rs1 million, Chief Secretary Abdul Aziz Aqeeli said on Thursday. At least 10,000 houses were destroyed in floods.

  • The price of electricity for K-Electric consumers has increased by Rs11.37 per unit. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority said the amount was increased under monthly fuel adjustment for June.

  • Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 246 runs in the second Test to end the series 1-1 on Thursday, with star performances from spinners Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis. The bowling duo shared nine wickets between them.
