Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry issued another warning to the government against using force to stop his party’s planned long march to Islamabad. “Such a measure would not end well for the ruling coalition,” the former information minister told media in Islamabad on Monday.

The statement follows on the heels of a PML-N consultative session in which it was reportedly suggested that PTI workers should be stopped from coming to Islamabad while there are also reports that the government intends to divert PTI supporters to the Srinagar Highway.

It is also being reported that the government is planning to arrest PTI’s Islamabad-based leadership.

Sheikh Rashid of the Awami Muslim League, who was the interior minister in the PTI-led government, said on Monday that four official vehicles were parked outside his house. “They are waiting to arrest me,” he said.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to hand over the security of the Red Zone in Islamabad to Rangers.

During his media talk, Fawad said Imran Khan would leave Peshawar on the morning of May 25 and arrive in Islamabad on the same day.

“PTI’s long march call has been restricted to people in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkwa, while workers in Karachi have been asked to protest in their city.”

Talking about the march’s schedule, Fawad said Imran would announce the “next action plan on June 3,” indicating that they may prolong the protest.

The former information minister said if the incumbent government remained in power for the next two to three months, Pakistan could default.
