Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives Asad Umar Sunday said that the presidential reference for the interpretation of Article 63(A) is “ready” and will be presented before the Supreme Court on Monday.

Taking to Twitter, the minister said that the presidential reference will end the horse-trading in the country's politics for ever.

Earlier on March 19, the government during a consultative meeting of the PTI’s political committee with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair had decided to move the Supreme Court for interpretation of Article 63(A), as several PTI lawmakers have announced to vote on the no-trust motion in a violation of the party policy .

The meeting was convened to discuss the legal options available to act against the disgruntled lawmakers and counter the opposition’s move to dislodge the government.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, later in the day, had made the decision public in his tweet before Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi formally announced the decision of approaching the top court at a press conference.

Article 63(A)

Article 63-A suggests disqualification on grounds of defection for not obeying the parliamentary party directions in the election of the prime minister, chief minister or vote of confidence or no confidence or money bill etc.

Dozens of members of PTI under 'safe custody'

Earlier on Wednesday PML-N leader Javed Latif in an interview with Aaj News had revealed that at least 3-dozen members of ruling PTI were in 'safe custody'.

Later on Thursday, dozens of PTI MNAs came out in the open and were found staying at the Sindh House in Islamabad.

Citing fears of government's action against them there had been around 24 PTI lawmakers staying at the Sindh House, Geo News had quoted Raja Riaz as saying.
