Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi discussed the current situation in Ukraine with the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borell in a telephonic conversation.

Taking to twitter Qureshi said that he had shared Pakistan’s principled position, "anchored in peace through dialogue & diplomacy."

The Foreign Office in a statement said that Qureshi Underscored the adverse effects of conflict on developing countries and mentioned that the prime minister had been stressing the importance of diplomatic solutions.

Expressing deep concern at the recent turn of events, the foreign minister apprised the EU High Representative of Pakistan’s principled position, which is anchored in the promotion of peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Earlier in the day while talking to the media in Mirpurkhas, the foreign minister said that dialogue and diplomacy are only way forward to resolve regional disputes, including Ukraine issue.

Qureshi said that issues can be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy and we have a clear position that war is not the solution to the issues. Pakistan has been in a state of war for 20 years and facing economic loses, he added.

"Munir Akram presented Pakistan's position on Russia-Ukraine conflict in a better way."

Referring to videos surfaced on social media purportedly showing Indian students sitting down and eating with Pakistani students in a cafeteria-like setting, Qureshi said that the Pakistani embassy in Ukraine has also provided assistance to Indian students and citizens without any discrimination.

"We did what was possible for them on a humanitarian basis," he said.

The minister said that the Pakistani embassy was playing its due role.

Qureshi further said that he had talked to his Polish counterpart in a constructive way adding that European countries themselves are acknowledging that sanctions on Russia are not a permanent solution to the problem.

Qureshi said that he assured Pakistan of his country's complete support in the safe evacuation of Pakistani citizens from Ukraine.

PTI's Huqooq-e-Sindh march

The foreign minister is currently leading the PTI's Haqooq-i-Sindh march along with several other party leaders.

Speaking about his party's march the Foreign Minister said that the march would visit Mithi and Badin today (Thursday) to seek masses support on national issues.

Speaking about oppositions claims that government member would support the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, Qureshi said all PTI allies are united and working together for development of the country under dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

PPP-PTI clash

The foreign minister further said that he understands PPP cochairman Asif Ali Zardari's politics. "In Matiari PPP workers tried to stop PTI's convoy and tried to create an atmosphere of confrontation."

The minister said it was not the style of Benazir Bhutto's party, adding that despite the opposition of Asif Zardari, Benazir Bhutto had made him the president of PPP Punjab while Asif Zardari wanted to make Ahmed Mukhtar the President of PPP Punjab.
