Pakistan’s Covid positivity ratio has remained below 10% for the second consecutive day, giving a sigh of relief to the health authorities, as the government conduct a door-to-door two-week vaccination campaign to inoculate 35 million.

“Statistics 2 Feb 22: total tests in last 24 Hours: 61,190; positive cases: 6,047; positivity %: 9.88%; deaths: 29; patients on critical care: 1,559,” the National Command and Operation Centre said in a tweet on Wednesday.

The countrywide tally showed that Sindh reported 544,722 cases, followed by Punjab (482,316), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (196,328), Islamabad (129,004), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (38,805), Balochistan (34,501), and Gilgit Baltistan (10,737).

The NCOC forum, which serves as the centre of the country’s unified efforts to contain the spread of novel coronavirus, on Tuesday announced that the first phase of a “massive” two-week-long door-to-door vaccination campaign countrywide to inoculate more than 35 million people was started as part of the country’s efforts to get “rid of the virus” and return to normalcy.

“As many as 55,000 mobile teams will take part in this campaign that will be conducted across the country. We have trained them and arranged vaccines for them,” NCOC head Asad Umar had said during a press conference in Islamabad.

Moreover, the health ministry on Wednesday in a series of tweets shared the prevailing Covid situation in 15 major cities in which Lahore was on top of the list with most cases, 1,021, followed by Karachi (915).

“The Omicron variant is highly transmissible—it is more important than ever to get vaccinated and wear a mask,” it read.

It also shared the national positivity ratio graph. According to statistics reported on February 2, Peshawar reported the highest positivity ratio, which was 25.28%, among the country’s five major cities – including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta.

In another tweet, the NCOC also shared the vaccine statistics. “Vaccine administered across Pakistan in last 24 hours: 1,254,125. Total vaccine administered till now: 177,420,636. 36% of the total population and 54% of the eligible population stand vaccinated!” it read.
