Different areas of the city – including Defence, Saddar, Federal B Area, Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, University Road, and Scheme 33 – received light to heavy rain that started from the early hours of the day.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), in its forecast on December 22, had stated that a strong westerly weather system was likely to enter western/upper parts of the country on Saturday (evening/night) and likely to grip most parts of the country on Sunday and may persist till Tuesday.

PAF Masroor Base, Kemari, and University Road areas received rainfall of 4 millimetres each, while Orangi Town and Faisal Base received the lowest rainfall of 2 millimetres each.

The PMD’s statement released on Monday read that rain/snow was expected in northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, lower Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and coastal areas of Sindh. Moreover, fog/smog was likely to prevail in plain areas of Punjab during night. Cold and dry weather was expected elsewhere in the country.

Dense Fog is likely to prevail in upper Sindh and plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during night/morning hours,” it read.

Moreover, with the spell of rain and snow across the country citizens have been complaining of low gas pressure and power outage problems.

In Karachi, the K-Electric updated that electricity was temporarily shut in areas where illegal connections were being used. Such a decision was taken in view of the precautionary measures, KE spokesperson Imran Rana said in a tweet.

“As more rain spells are predicted throughout the day, a few feeders can be temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure,” the KE said in a tweet.
