The family of comedian Omer Sharif appealed to the government to help send him abroad for medical treatment after he suffered a heart attack in Karachi.

In a widely circulated video message on Twitter on Friday, Sharif, in a visibly ill condition, said the doctors advised him to go to the USA for “better treatment."

“In my capacity, I have helped Imran Khan for establishing Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital,” he said.

The ailing comedian said he had always said “Labbaik” whenever the prime minister called on him and now he hoped Khan would say the same to him.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill in a message on Twitter said the officials of Prime Minister House was in contact with Sharif regarding his request.

In another message posted on Sharif’s Facebook page on Friday, his wife Zareen Omer said the next 24 hours were critical for the actor and requested prayers.

Later, Zareen posted another message, saying she and their son, Jawad Omer, were in contact with the government officials.

In the message, she clarified that the actor and “his family didn’t ask for any financial assistance from the government” or any entity. “We are just seeking help to get Umer’s visa ASAP”.
