The brother of Punjab MPA Asad Khokhar was gunned down Friday night at a wedding in Lahore's Defence neighborhood.

Mubashir Khokhar, who was there to attend the wedding of his nephew, Asad's son, was reported to have died on the way to the hospital while another person suffered injuries

Police arrested the shooter at the venue.

There were several dignitaries at the wedding including Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and other PTI leaders. There are some conflicting reports about whether Buzdar was on the venue when the incident took place or had just left when the shooting occurred.

A report in Dawn states that the Khokhar brothers were escorting Buzdar to his car when the assailants opened fire and the sound of gunfire caused panic in the venue with guests scrambling for safety.

Buzdar asked for a report into the incident as well as how a security lapse took place.

According to a story in The News, the incident is a result of a personal enmity. The man accused of the crime said Mubashir Khokhar was involved in his uncle's murder and no one was ready to take action against him.

Asad Khokhar was elected as member of the Punjab Assembly on PP-168 seat vacated by former Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique. He was expected to take oath today.
