A fire broke out on Sunday morning inside Hafiz Centre, Lahore's hub for electronic and mobile devices, due to electric short circuit. The fire erupted inside a shop on the second floor at approximately 6:00 in the morning and has spread across four floors. Rescue activities are in progress. No loss of life has been reported.

What we know so far:

According to details, firefighters were called to the scene immediately afterwards and have been trying to douse the flames for the last seven hours. However, the fire has only been intensified due to the burning of electronic devices. Twelve teams of the fire brigade and 60 rescue officials are taking part in the rescue operation. Eight out of these twelve teams have reportedly run out of the water. Authorities have called more fire brigade units to the location.

Approximately 30-40 shops have been engulfed by the fire which is spreading rapidly to the backside of the plaza. Laptops and mobiles worth million have been reportedly destroyed by the fire. Gulberg's main boulevard has been blocked for traffic to continue the relief activities.

According to Azhar Mashwani, Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar's focal person on digital media, Buzdar is monitoring the situation and has ordered the provincial Minister for Health Yasmin Rashid, ACS Home, Commissioner Lahore, DG Rescue, and DC Lahore to be present at the scene to oversee the relief activities.

Muddasir Riaz, the DC Lahore, while talking to the media said that firefighters have been successful in bringing the fire under "significant control":

"Workers from Rescue 1122 and fire department are present at the site and are working on putting out the fire. Snorkels are also present and all resources will be utilized."

An inquiry committee has been constituted to look into the incident and submit a report within 24 hours.
