No differences between Federal, Sindh govt: Sharjeel

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that there is no tension between the Federal and the Sindh governments.

Talking to media before attending the Sindh Assembly session on Monday, he said that besides public and private institutions, political parties will also have to get united after putting aside their differences to meet the challenges faced by the country together. Sharjeel Memon said that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah is a decent person and his statements should not be taken wrongly.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) are the coalition partners and they are fully co-operating each other, he added. He said that this is not the time for politicking, as the country is facing the challenges of energy shortages and terrorism, adding that security forces are fighting against terrorism.

The minister said that the Chief Minister Sindh's viewpoint about strike was misunderstood, adding that strike is not the solution to any problem. He said that the Chief Minister had formed a committee comprising provincial assembly members on the demand of the MQM to inquire into the killing of its workers, and the DG Rangers had himself visited the incident site.

The Sindh Information Minister said that the issue of unscheduled and prolonged electricity loadshedding will be taken up with the Federal Government. The PPP leader observed that tension among democratic forces under the prevailing circumstances in the country, is not in the interest of democracy. Answering a question, he said that wherever power generation plants are set up, it will be welcomed as it is imperative to pull the country out of power crisis.

Replying to a question about water shortage in Karachi, he pointed out that illegal hydrants are not only responsible for water crisis, water supply to the city is stopped from Hub Dam due to lack of rains.

He further said that the people are also facing problems in receiving water from Dhabeji Pumping Station due to electricity loadshedding by the K-Electric at pumping stations.
